The online suppliers of discount eyeglasses want to know, are you glasses making you look older then you really are? It is a possibility especially if you are still rocking specs that you were wearing in 1975. Discount eyewear is a very defining component to a face so choosing the right frame could take years off of your appearance. Whether you are shopping for discount reading glasses or you need a pair of affordable prescription sunglasses, you will want to invest in one of Eyeglass Factory Outlet’s frames that will make you look more youthful and stylish in an instant.

  • Balance long face shapes. Try a slightly larger frame that has a more structured square shape which will help to add balance to your face.
  • Soften a square face. Look for discount frames with rounded edges to help soften a square shaped face. The look will also help dark hair and eyes pop.
  • Keep it cool. If you are looking for an inconspicuous look, opt for thin and understated frames. Choose soft, round wire frames that will stay out of the spotlight.
  • Put emphasis on cheekbones. Shop for glasses that are smaller in length and have upturned corners to define cheekbones. The cat eye shaped glasses will highlight your cheekbone and give an illusion of an instant facelift.
  • Stay Classic. Aviator frames are a timeless classic that never go out of style. Aviators are universally flattering on most face shapes.

So the time has come for you to buy a new pair of glasses and you have chosen to shop at a discount eyewear online retailer such as Eyeglass Factory Outlet. You will be able to shop from the comfort of your own home or favorite Wi-Fi hotspot, but first you will need to know somethings about your eyesight before you can order. Along with your lens prescription, you will need to know the pupillary distance (PD) before you place your order. The pupillary distance measures the space between the pupils of your eyes. Knowing your PD is important because you need to make sure your eyes match up with the optical center of your lenses.

Follow Eyeglass Factory Outlet’s guide for an easy step by step guide to measure your PD at home:

  • Stand approximately 8 inches away from your mirror
  • With your head straight, hold a ruler against your brow line.
  • Close your right eye and align the ruler’s zero marker to the center of your left pupil.
  • While looking straight, open your right eye and close the left eye.
  • Read the mm line the matches up with the center of your right pupil. This number is your PD.

Tips:

  • Make sure to measure you pupillary distance a few times to make sure that it is accurate.
  • Adult PD Range: 54-74mm
  • Child PD Range: 43-53mm
  • If a friend is measuring your PD, keep both of your eyes open and have them place the zero mm over the center of one of your pupils and then measure the distance to the center of the other pupil.

Eyeglass Factory Outlet knows that when you have made the decision to buy a new pair of discount glasses, the first step is to schedule an appointment with your optometrist or ophthalmologist. Once you have identified your correct lens prescription and pupillary distance, then it will be time to consider which pair of discounted eyeglasses is a good fit for you. When considering new eyeglass frames, it is good to conceptualize your lifestyle and your eyewear needs. You will want your glasses to fit into any scenario that may present itself, so discount eyewear frame professionals have come up with some key aspects to consider when deciding between metal or plastic frames.

Metal:

  • Metal frames are neatly and solidly finish at the bridge, nose pads, and temple areas which creates a smooth and sleek finish.
  • Metal frames should have a shine and the finish should be consistent and blemish free. If there is any discoloring or tarnishes or you have noticed any corrosion, then the discount metal frames are probably made of poor quality.
  • The bridge of the glasses should sit comfortably on your nose. The temples of the glasses should extend and gently curve around your ear. If the arms press or pinch your temples, try looking for a larger sized discount eyeglass frame.

Plastic:

  • The hinges of plastic discount frames are securely attached to the front of the frame and the temples. All of the edges should be smooth and hazard free. They should solid and withstand all wear and tear.
  • Quality discount plastic frames should have a uniform color and pattern through. If the design looks uneven you should look for another pair.
  • Discount plastic frames may need a few simple adjustments and should fit comfortably. If you feel pinching anywhere, you will need to get a larger sized frame.

When temperatures drop it is almost impossible to forget to get out your scarf to protect your face, gloves to keep your hands and fingers warm, boots to keep your feet warm and dry, all topped off with a plush winter coat. It is easy however, to forget to protect and care for your eyes in colder weather. Eyeglass Factory Outlet knows that exposure of the eyes to wind, cold temperatures, and intense glare caused by the snow can pose a variety of hazards.

The suppliers of discount prescription eyewear have some precautions that people should take for eye safety in harsh winter environments:

– Proper eye protection should be worn wherever hazards to the eyes exist. The various styles of affordable eyewear and discount sunglasses meet basic requirements needed for eye protection. If you find yourself outside for extended periods of time, you may want to invest in more substantial eyewear.

– Because temperatures are so low and the body produces more heat to keep its internal temperatures warm, fogging of discounted eyeglasses is a common problem. Fogging of the glasses may obscure your vision and put you at risk of injury. Fortunately, there is anti-fog coating for your affordable eyewear. Eyeglass Factory Outlet suggests looking for permanently bonded anti-fog coatings for longer lasting properties.

– Opt for tinted lenses to reduce over exposure to bright light – either natural or artificial. Prolonged and repeated exposure to bright light or glare can result in discomfort, eye fatigues and headaches. Prolonged exposure can also lead to macular degeneration, as well as cataracts.

Refractive errors are the most common cause of eyesight issues and are especially common in the United States. Refractive errors such as nearsightedness and others are highly treatable conditions. With a simple trip to the optometrist, an individual can have an eye exam performed and receive a pair of affordable prescription eyeglasses that will help correct their poor vision.

For people that live in developing countries and have poor eyesight visiting an optometrist is not so simple. In these developing countries, there is only one optometrist for every 600,000 people on average so many people with refractive errors go untreated. The bright side? Professor Silver came up with the solution by creating self-adjustable low price eyewear.

Professor Silver has come up with a pair of self adjustable eyeglasses that have fluid filled lens technology, which allows the wearer to manually adjust the power of the lens until optimal vision is achieved. Each lens is made of flexible membranes that move either inward or outward depending on the amount of fluid (silicone solution) that they contain. The glasses have proven to significantly improve the vision of approximately 95% of participants, and the technology is simple to use.

One major barrier to introducing a new form of technology to a developing country is cost. However, Professor Silver has considered this from the get-go, and has demanded that they have to be affordable eyeglasses for developing countries.

Eyeglass Factory Outlet knows that progress is being made. At present, the cost of production and delivery of one of these pairs of glasses to a child in developing countries totals $15.

In the spirit of the holidays and a time for giving back, it is refreshing and inspiring to hear of the stories of do-gooders who give back to those who are not as fortunate as they are. In developing countries, having access to eye doctors and having enough funds to see one could cost a family an entire month’s worth of wages. Even if these families do manage to scrounge together the money to go to an eye doctor, one optometrist could be responsible for the eye care of thousands of people in one location.

The Franklin Lions Club and Frechette Eye Center get together annually to collect gently used discount prescription eyeglasses, reading glasses, and discount sunglasses to donate to people who are in need of affordable eyewear in other countries.

The Lions Club chapters across the nation are participating and the group is hoping to collect triple the amount that they collected last year. They hope to collect over 800 pairs, which can change a significant amount of people’s lives who have vision problems in these underdeveloped areas. More than 35 collection boxes have been put up around businesses and county churches throughout the year.

The discount eyeglasses are then cleaned, repaired, and given to a Lions Club in Mexico that distributes the glasses to the local residents in need. An optometrist travels with the group to give free eye exams to the recipients of the affordable frames.  Local medical and church mission teams sometimes request eyeglasses for their trips, but the majority of the glasses that are collected end up in Mexico.
